  • A Sad Time for Our Nation

    Oct 03, 2017

This week marks a sad time for our nation.  Once again a deranged nut opens fire on innocent people. Already the usual suspects are lining up offering solutions. Politicians want to take away peoples God given right to protect themselves while others seek to make dishonest arguments about what the 2nd Amendment to The Constitution means.

A couple things I will clarify for folks, so being a former Marine with 28 years of service and multiple combat tours here's the deal.

You see “weapons” any kind of weapon is for one purpose killing people period! There should be no ambiguity about this. All guns are made for killing and most are designed to kill people and we shouldn't be afraid of them. While the numbers are suspect let's just say that there’s way more people who use them to ward off criminals every year than people murdered. We shouldn't become hysterical every time some freaking nut job goes out and kills a bunch of innocent people.

You see civilization is bullshit. An artificial construct, "The Matrix" if you will, and the only thing that keeps most of the barbarians outside the gate is they know they would have to answer to 300 Million rifles. If you disagree that's fine you're entitled to your own opinion not your own facts.

For those who want to call for a ban on assault rifles, once again you cannot buy an assault rifle legally. This idiot may have modified his weapons to make them illegal fully automatic.

Anyway, the founding fathers were very wise because they understood that when the power to make war, yes "MAKE WAR" only resided in the state its citizens could never be free.

Understand that the weapons the colonist had in the 18th century with the exception of cannons were equal to in firepower and accuracy to the weapons of England. In terms of world history America is but a mere babe in the woods and throughout history wherever there was an oppressive government it only could exist as long as the balance of power to make war resided in the state and the founding fathers were well aware of the lessons of history because they lived it under British rule.

During the ratification process of the Constitution there were states that would not ratify it unless the 2nd Amendment was added. It was always understood that the 2nd Amendment dealt with not only personal protection but the ability of a nations people if necessary to combat an out of control government and not just the ability of the powers that be to form a militia.

As for the "antiquated" argument regarding the 2nd Amendment, well the founding fathers never envisioned "internet porn" either but here we are in the 21st century awash in this stuff. But yet as long it's within the law the 1st Amendment protects it. They never envisioned the NSA being able to vacuum up everyone's email and metadata only to abuse the 4th, 5th, and 14th Amendments.

My point is don't fall for the nonsense that the 2nd Amendment was only pertaining to the government having a monopoly on weapons. I can tell you throughout human history every tyrannical government was able to gain 100% control by the abolition of weapons be they swords, bows or firearms. This is what Paul Revere’s famous ride was all about. He wasn't warning people about the British because they were just coming ashore. He was warning people that a contingent of Royal Marines were on their way to confiscate the Colonists weapons.

    Final Thoughts

The Constitution doesn't grant us our rights as so many are willing to teach incorrectly. The Constitution "affirms" our natural God given rights that we are already born with so even if there wasn't a 2nd Amendment this right still exists and that The Congress can make no law abridging these rights because they were never theirs to give in the first place. For a great insight on the context of the formation of the Constitution read "The Federalist Papers”.

Yes, guns are meant for killing and we need to be honest about it. When we make these “BS hunting arguments” we muddy the waters I'm totally clear on that point and make no apologies for it. I'm all about “the right to bare arms” and protect myself and my loved ones and even if the government made a law forbidding it I would still exercise such rights.

My heart goes out to the victims and their families and having lost my younger brother to violence I totally get it. It never goes away you only learn to deal with it but I can tell you had he had a gun on him when he was attacked we'd probably be telling stories about our kids today.

Our focus should be on the criminal and not looking for ways to take away the rights of law abiding citizens to protect themselves. This guy broke the law when he modified those weapons and if he wanted to find weapons illegally he would have found them as well. A gun is an instrument of killing you can do evil or good with it but we shouldn't lie to ourselves as to its purpose nor should we be afraid of it.
